Hi - here is a snap from our holiday in Corfu. I like it but would welcome any comments. Thanks.

Not a bad shot. The horizon needs to be leveled a bit, and I think the composition might have been helped if you knelt down to take the shot. That would have compressed the foreground objects and allowed you to include more of that lovely sky. A polarizing filter would have deepened the sky's colour even more.

Thanks Pete

Actually I was kneeling - well, crouching as I was standing at the waters edge and there was a wall right behind me - a bit awkward hence the slight error in levelling the horizon I guess. Also the shot was taken with a polarizing filter - would you expect it to have darkened the sky more? - I am new to all this!

Thanks for your comments - much appreciated

It's a nice photo. Good colours, interesting composition. However I think it could be improved by (a) having a larger depth of field so that the tangle fo fishing nets in the forground is sharper, (b) shooting from a viewpoint that doesn't have the left-hand boat in it (that large expanse of white tarpaulin is distracting) and of course (c) levelling the horizon.

I find this picture interesting for reasons that I am fairly sure are completely unintentional. The two boats look to me as if they are straining to pull the dock apart while the large jumble of net in the foreground is straining to pull both dock and boats out of the frame toward me. The covered boat is a very weird shape.

The island looks like it is floating on air. The people on the island look way to big, or the building is too small. Then there is the black tree trying to devour the steeple, and an aircraft just entering the right side of the frame.

On the other hand, it could be just a nice, sunlit travel scene. Good picture.

Interesting comments - the building really is that small - and well spotted on the aircraft - the monastry is situated at one end of the runway at Corfu airport. The following two pictures were taken only a few paces away from the first. One is looking in the same direction as the plane you can see. The other is turning round 180% showing the landing lights and runway.

Interesting. Nice composition in that last one.

The difference in the blue of the sky and the blue of the water in all of these pictures seems really unusual. I think the color tension adds to the pictures, especially in the first one where there is yet another blue in one of the boats.

Thanks for all the comments.

StewartR - I agree that a greater dof would be an improvement. Viewpoints were actually limited as I didn't have my waders with me but I agree the white tarpaulin is distracting. I have now straightened the horizon in Photoshop and yes, it looks a lot better!
