You're not the first person to mention the similarity, although I personally can't see it. However, if enough people do, then it must be so.

I was using a "Grunge Effect" action that I downloaded from http://www.atncentral.​com, although there seem to be quite a few others around if you do a search. I am still playing with these actions, changing values to discover the effect

After applying the action, I did some general sharpening and some further selective sharpening (mostly to the eyes). This was followed by some dodging and burning to emphasise facial lines and creases. I then cropped it and changed from portrait to landscape format.

Here is the original, just resized, to show the effect of the editing:

A single 550ex was set up about 6 feet away for me, in front and to the right (you can tell that of course
