Hi Mark,
Ahhhh....the fun of photography:D ....or is it the insane photographers  ..great catch, nice comp and enviroment in # 1.
IMHO the quality of shots when you use a teleconvertor is not as good to me the shots look flat, do you find this the case when you use it?
Great story
Regards,
Clare

Terrifically good shots Marc, the detail is quite outstanding on these owls and good texture on the tree and stones in the first shot makes it a favourite for me, well done.

Excellent photos of the owl, very sharp and clean. The shots of the people in the stream are entertaining too, like the story and the whole experience! Love the arrow pointing to the owl...I wish I could see arrows pointing out owls when I'm looking for them!:)

Hey Marc some cool shots of a owl I can't find for some reason. The close-up is superb! EXIF if would be so kind? I would have thought the vibrations from the water on the tripod could have really had an effect on the shots but they look great. Do you always go the tripod route? I shoot mostly off a monopod with a 500, unless I'm in a blind. Then it's a tripod, remote switch, IS off and mirror lock up the whole bit.

I must thank you and Dan for proving I'm not the only crazy photog out there. The wife always calls me nuts for doing stuff like this, at least I'm not alone. Got your stuff insured?

Zip

Hi Zip,

Some of my shots as I did my approach and took shots in rapid water came out sof but most of them are quite sharp. I did feel vibrations from the water rushing against the tripod and those are the ones that came out soft.

I always use the Tripod when using the 500F4. Since I always carry binoculars, I need both hands when scouting the area with my bins. The monopod, IMHO, is awkward to carry with this particular lens. I find tripod over shoulder works best for me and brings me good result when proper techniques are used.

As for insurance....covered with house insurance only. If I brake it in the field, I'm done....

Here's another shot with a shutter speed of 1/200 with the 500 plus 1.4tc.

Tks for looking!

I'm late to the post and everything has been said, Marc. But let me add my compliments for going across that river to get those great shots and for sharing them with those of us who envy you guys up North for your abundant photo opportunities and consummate skill in capturing them. Terrific images and story.
