figures! finally got my Sigma 120-300 and ( to me ) its soft! STRIKE ONE ! For the price of this lens there shouldnt be any "issues". Well, it goes back today and hopefully by next week Ill have a new one to try. BUT, two strikes and its over for me.

Too bad, hope you get a better one. Was it only soft wide open at 300?

seemed soft whatever i tried.....
yeah it could have been user error, but i can tell you at least 1/50 test images should have been sharp even if I "suck" ....

How do you figure that? I would say that if you are using TV 1/50, you should expect soft images.

can you post any with exif attached!! I know you sent glass back, but inquiring minds want to know. :)

Doesn't he mean that at least 1 out of 50 test images should have been sharp?

Troy, what were your shutter speeds and do you have 100% crops at f2.8?

I remember you mentioning in a recent and related thread that you owned a very sharp copy of the 400 f/5.6.
Well, if that's the case, and if your 400 prime is the reference point for the 120-300 assessment, I think you'll be doing strike II faster than you can say "Sigma".

Bummer,. I've heard of people getting three or four copies before getting a "perfect" one.

It's a shame, but even the pricier products can have issues.

the canon 400 f5.6 is my reference point, is that the problem?
