Trying to learn..

Here are a couple of pictures I took of my daughters with a single strobe to my left and a small (very old) yashica flash to the right. Still playing with the settings and lights to try to get it right, but this is as good as I was able to do. I don't get too many opportunities to practice and when they are willing, it doesn't last long!

My older daughter worked as my assistant to get the little one to smile...as you can see, she did her job well!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm far from an expert on portraits but I think the first shot is great. I like the lighting,composition and the expressions. the 2nd shot seems too posed. Although She is a cute kid.

Not bad...the shadows on your younger daughters face in the first pic seem too dark for my taste though.

I like the posed photo The only thing I could say that bothers me about it is that you can't see her feet. You've set up a full-length shot so the viewer expects to see all of the subject.

Thanks for the comments! I have a lot to learn...I was too focused on her expression and didn't see that I was cutting off her feet. Didn't even notice that until I saw it on the computer!

I like these. I've been attempting to photography my niece thats about to turn 2 years old. I know how hard it can be. I'd be happy with a shot like yours
