AF faster in manual mode?

I seen this said in another thread and no one disputed it, Just wondering is this true? The poster said because the camera doesn't have to spend time calculating aperture/shutter sppeds.that Af is faster. Never heard of this before, but than again I don't shoot in Manual that often.

I usually get more keepers shooting in manual but I don't know if it really makes a difference to AF

Well, I would disagree as to the reason. I don't think the time it takes modern silicon to run the algorithms necessary is humany perceptible.
