Is there a way to tell, other than trial an error, what f/stop would yield the sharpest image with this lens? I know most lenses seem to be around 5.6 to maybe 8 or 11...

thanks

according to photozone.de it's at 40mm f5.6.

I'm not sure what good this information would do since you get a zoom to "zoom" and adjust aperature to control DOF.
If you are just interested in sharpness only, getting a prime may be a better option.

The lens is pretty new, this more out of curiosity. I like the lens, but I’ve noticed some pictures could/should be a little sharper.

generally as one gets more familiar with a lens, better the outcomes.

Here's an interesting test showing sharpness - in 3D form- across the frame at different apertures and focal lengths .

I generally only ever shoot at between F8 & F16 when outdoors in good light, it yields the best sharpness edge to edge, if I want to be more creative with DOF then I will use F5.6 at 40mm or so, I tend to avoid using F2.8 wide open as its a little soft.

Nick :-)
