I know there is another post about upgrading from an XT to the XTI, but i wanted to start another one with my particular situation..a possible upgrade from the original Rebel (300D) to the XTI. Do ya'll think this would be worht the $500 or so (if you subtract what i might be able to sell the Rebel for) it would cost me?

I know I sure am. The XTi can be had for $799 (body only), and you can sell your 300D for $400-500 depending on quality.

I'd keep the 300D and save up for the 400D as a *second* body. The 300D doesn't go for very much nowadays... I think the asking price is around $300 for a used one.

I think there is a dramatic difference from the 300 to 350...so the 400 would certainly be nice upgrade! Though, if you had the 300, I would assume you have outgrown the basics therefor recommending the 30D :) but either direction you go, you will be much more satisfied with overall performance of both...not to mention power up time! Good luck!

I sold my 300D with lens for around 400 and picked up a 20D used for 800. That's a better move according to me - but I have not played with a 400D.

What is it that you don't like about the 300d? It is perfectly capable of taking excellant shots. Not to say that the XTi wouldn't be a significant upgrade for you, but if all you are shooting with is the kit lens, then money spent on a better lens could be another option.

I totally agree. I started with a 300D, have bought and sold lenses and gradually built up to a 70-200L f4, 50mm f1.8 mk1 and will soon add a 17-40L. I am now starting to realise the limitations of the 300D and am awaiting delivery of a 20D from the US. Main issues with the 300D are the fps rates (I am missing *lots* of shots at the moment) and noise at anything above ISO 200.

My advice would be not to just upgrade for the sake of it. You will appreciate better glass much quicker than a better body....

I think its an upgrade worth having. The 400D is capable of much better images than the 300D and is likely a more significant upgrade than newer glass and for a whole lot less.
20D at a good price would be a peach though.
