Hi everyone,

How likely is it that the price of the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM will drop once the 70-200 f/4 IS starts selling ?

One more thing, do the f/4 and f/2.8 versions have the same IS version ( 3rd generation may be !! ) or different ?

Thanks

There are a lot of people that would opt for f2.8 over f4 with or without IS.:D

It's not likely the price will drop. I, for one, wouldn't buy the f/4 over the f/2.8. For what I shoot, the extra stop of light is more important than IS on an f/4 lens.

i don't think the price will drop on the f2.8....maybe on the after market but not the new lenses.

the f4 IS unit is improved and gives an extra stop.

i think the F4 IS will be a smoking compact lens that you can pack with you all the time.

afterall, it's the same exact size as the f4 non-IS and only a couple of ounces heavier.

if i decide to get an IS zoom this will be it if IQ and bokeh are comparable to the f4.

The IS on the 70-200 f/4 IS is of the new generation and can compensate 4 stops??? The old one 3 stops!!

The blades of the 70-200 F4 can create more blurr than the non is! The new
70-200 F4 also gives distances info for the camera!

The better choice (i think) is always the 70-200 2.8 or 2.8 IS!!

But if weight is a issue.... stick to the 4L versions!!!!

i think you'll see many more opting for the smaller size and smaller pricetag over the extra stop.

when the 24-105 was first released there was some initial resistance but as you can see from the recent poll it is clearly the leading walkaround lens.

eventually practicality wins out.

I have owned the f/4 and just purchased the 2.8 IS and have used it before as well. I definitely prefer the 2.8 IS over the f/4 any day. Much better results for me.
