Does anyone have any experience with a wide range lense such as the Sigma 28-300. If so let me know what you think. If you have pictures good or bad that would be nice too. Thanks

Optical performance is so-so, especially given that it's a consumer grade lens and 10.7x zoom. But it fills a niche for some DSLR shooters for its convenience and portability and range. It's a lens that gives great focal range at the expense of very good IQ. That said, I'm sure you could take some fine images with it, especially if you're not printing out 20x30 prints. It's a give and take. Do you really need a lens like this? Will your budget allow for better optics with shorter range?

I have the Tamron 28-300mm and I like it. I originally bought it for an all around lens when I was shooting black and white film. I think it takes great pictures. I haven't useded it too much since I got my 70-200 f4L but I did take it out last weekend and took the following at the Los Angeles Arboretum in the Orchid house.

I have the Sigma 28-300 and I found that it works best on bright sunny days. I find the image quality is very good with mine. The biggest issue with the lens I found is anything less than outside and mostly sunny is auto focus is horrible and you end up missing shots. I bought the lens because I was shooting outdoor festivals and didn't want to swap lenses on my 30d and within that specific use I've been happy with the lens.

for cropped sensors, the 18-200 zooms might be a better idea as it has a wideangel coverage. Tamron and Sigma both make one, the biggest diff. is that Tamron has a smaller min. focus distance. So I'd recommend the Tamron 18-200.
