Sigma 17-35mm 2.8-4 Sample shot. (everyone says this lens is crap)

This shot was taken on film, so please ignore the grainyness, dust, and the water streaks where it did not dry evenly.

This is a straight scan, no post processing (except resize from 4800dpi scan down to 1000pixels wide)

Taken wide open and zoomed all the way out (17mm) on Kodak Portra 160vc. I was much closer to the boxcar than it looks (they joys of wide angle. :) )

Sure, it could be sharper, but this does the trick for the price paid ($200)

BTW, the photos were shot for documentation on our fleet at work, thus why they are not composed in an artsy way. We restore and operate steam locomotives and rollingstock.


Fullsize, the woodgrain is very clear.

I have this lens.. I am looking to replace it because it tends to be hard to focus and i need something that grabs on a little quicker. otherwise no problem with pictures.. just ability to get focus quickly.


In my tenth year as a Full time Sports Photographer.
