So i got to college with all the idea's for shots running through my head.
Im not usually meant to be there on a monday so my tutor was teaching a class tonight so we went in a bit early to get the studio opened ect.

First it turns out he'd forgotten my hot shoe connection so i couldnt connect to the studio light's. Lucky id taken my flash gun to fire them! First Hurdle over.

Then i realise that over the summer all the studio background have been taken down so all I had to work with was a black wall  . Lucky I had stuffed the bed sheet in - VERY VERY creased by this time. Second hurdle sort of over.

THEN I realise the light meter I had been given at college was a brand new one which i didnt know how to use! But as my tutor was teaching i couldnt go running to him. I finally worked out some speed's after taking many pics n fiddling. Third Hurdle over.

THEEEEEEEN...I realise that all the lights had been swapped about. Only 1 softbox was in the studio when there is usually 2 med ones and 1 large. and it was at the back. At this point i felt like crying.

Anyway these are the results. Ill have to try again when i find another prego woman!!

C&C most welcome. Please dont be too harsh though as ive just eaten a cheesecake and 4 kitkats to soften the blow!! haha

1. Belly is blown i know but it was hard without the light meter!

2. Just messing in PS.

what was the lighting setup in #1? How were you triggering the ?Strobe?

Disregard, went back and dun sum REEDIN'.

Hot shoe adapter definately would have been nicer.

Is the fill intentional then or a biproduct of using a flash gun as a trigger?

These are definately better than all of my earlier attempts, I'm not sure how much feedback you want since these are not in the critique forum. I am not a professional and I haven't taken any formal classes on photography so feel freeto disregard anything I say.

I have read and heard that you shouldn't light heavier women from the front, but I prefer to take Rembrandts approach and light the subject (the baby bump). I think some shadows would have slimmed her down some, but it's hard to do without the hotshoe adapter. I will know more about how to light heavier subject's when I do my wife's maternity pic's (we are both "overweight"). My niece was easy. and I will soon be shooting some photo's of her new baby girl (as soon as the jaundice is gone.)

Remember the most important part is rather or not the subject likes the photos. If she is honest she will tell you what she likes and dislikes, and this is the best way to learn how to make the client happy.

I did ask in the forum the other day about 'heavier' women n i was told not to change anything!!
She's not my client just a friend who modelled for my college project so i guess its me thats got to like them. I think i will put the one into my work (the one with her daughter) as thats come out about the best! At least i got 1 picture eh! not a complete waste of time.

I wanted a really nice one to add to a montage as a peice of college work...but maybe that whole idea is blown out now! im not sure i just feel a bit deflated after having all these idea's and not being able to carry them out because college dont supply sufficent apparatus to work with when we have all paid our course fee's!

Ill prob feel better in the moring!

Thanks for your chit chat :)

I meant future clients, practicing with friends gets you good enough to charge later. And I never said they weren't good, just trying to give you ideas for next time. I am the worst about having lots of ideas and not remembering them when shooting (or not being able to pull them off.) I wouldn't have been able to do much of anything if my niece wasn't so patient. Our last session took like five hours. Definately began to show in some of the later shots. What time is it in the UK?

I actually really like them.

#2, is that red flower photoshopped in? Looks a bit soft, maybe could be better, to make a great photo. :)

Got any kit kat left?
