First, the "Magic Sidewalk" is a play on words from Chicago's "Magic Hedge". Here's a link to a story about the "Magic Hedge": http://www.nationalgeographic.com …o_Area_Bird_watching.html (external link)

In the past I've posted picture of usually shy woodland birds, mostly warblers, on the sidewalk of The Green in downtown Charlotte, NC, USA. The pictures are great because I usually only have a Sony P&S in my pocket. Here is a Northern Waterthrush from August 28th:

and an American Redstart from today:

Here's a link to a few more Magic Sidewalk photos that I've posted:

Where do you think the expression "pooped out" comes from?

Here's a pooped out Wilson's Warbler:

For some reason the first two are way out of focus. I thought the camera might have back focus issue but then you post the 3rd and its perfect :)

I think it's camera shake. I usually find them early in the morning (low light) with people walking all around so I've only got a few moments to take pictures. If I can, I set the camera near the bird and set the 10-second delay. I just didn't have a chance with these two birds.

Very cool. I remember your other shots. You see more songbirds on the sidewalk than most people see in the woods! These are all in the same area, the same sidewalk? I saw a flicker on my sidewalk the other morning about 6:30AM. Took some shots and made sure it was okay. Guess it was just roosting there!
