Just purchased a 30D and 430EX flash. Just the flash has arrived so far so I'm reading the manual, trying to be patient. Question though, how smart is this flash for zoom coverage? Does it know that my 1.6x body with a 28mm lens is not as wide as with a full frame body? I hope so, otherwise it will always be zooming wider than necessary and I'm cheated of some quide number power?

Thanks,
Brent

Yes, the 430EX will take the crop factor of the camera into consideration when adjusting the flash head zoom for the lens that's mounted.

Thanks Leo. Probably was a dumb question, it would be crazy if it did not take into account the cropped frame.

It seems that FOV wouldn't matter - it should be using the distance info from the AF system combined with exposure data from the preflash. I could see it mattering if the format difference was the other direction - as in a larger format.
