Hi there,

today decked out in full camo I got the shot I have been chasing for 6 weeks. I have been chasing a shot of a male Suberb Fairy Wren, I have the females but that elusive shot of a male has gone by the wayside. The camo allowed me to get withing 6 feet of them and watch them. It was pretty exciting to be honest.

Comments and critacism welcome as always.

Regards Darren

1. and 2. Superb fairy wren male, these birds are about the size of a golf ball and so beautiful to see, they usually occur in family groups of up to 20. Usually there is a dominant pair with young from previous clutches helping catch food (insects) in this group there is usually males however if they colour into this blue they will be killed so they remain in eclipse plumage. For them to colour up into males they need to leave the family group.

3. Here is a female for comparison, also all submisive males remain this colour.

What a gorgeous bird the Superb Fairy Wren is, fantastic blue colours, great angle on the bird in the second shot showing it's tail sky-high which is typical of the Wren. You have nailed good focus on the female and despite all the leaves and branches you have a very clear shot of the bird and with excellent colours makes this shot my favourite, well done Darren, good series.
