New Holland (Yellow Winged) Honeyeater

My last shot for the day during lunch yesterday. These honeyeaters are quite common in South Australia often found in small flocks of ten or so. They can be quite aggressive when unwanted bird show up. There is a very similar one found in the eastern states. EXIF: Auto, 1/500, f7.1, ISO 400, 75-300 at 300mm. Slightly saturated, sharpened and cropped (to much boring background) C&C welcome.

Hi Trace,
nice looking bird, IMHO your shot is a bit soft, do you use a tripod or monopod?
Looking at your exif I think it could have been sharper, I use a monopod a lot and it make a big difference.
Also the bird is very centered in the photo, perhaps a crop some off the left side and bottom as the blurred fore ground is more distracting that the background, personally I like the background,

Thanks for your comments Clare. No not in the ownership of a tripod or mono as yet. Will be soon. Order of the day for me is shovel my lunch down, get indigestion, and then take a walk along the trail that follows the scrub and coast near my office. I ram as many shots in as I can. On this day I took 109 in under an hour, using different settings as I'm still experimenting, trying to get my head around exposure settings, different light etc. I spotted this Honeyeater after getting in the car and heading back to work. Unfortunately, it doesn't pay this bird justice. Will try and get one from around home as there is plenty there.

Looks like the focus was not on the bird but some of the branches around was the problem. Look at the bottom of the pic. Happens to me all the time!

Nice shot, I'm yet to spot one of these in the West, but hopefully get one over East next year. As said, the focus loks to be on the branches. Try to get the focus on the hea of the bird, I find a lot of the time, I get a shot where I've got the body in perfect focus, but the head is a little soft.
