From memory (foggy), error 99 is described as an error other than the other errors in the manual. How useless is that. The advice is to remove and re-insert the battery.

I have had one of these with all Canon parts so I think they just happen.

Err 01 is a communications fault between the camera and the lens.

My tip. Re-attach the lens, re-insert the battery and see how she goes.

you might also try cleaning the mount contacts.

according to alot i have read error 99 codes are supposedly mroe likely to happen with a non canon lens, however i only use canon lens and i still get it from time to time, the suggestion to clean the contacts is a superb one, when i was riddled with this problem last year i gave it a good clean "using a pencil erazor" it worked fine for many months, i may need to do mine again .

Probably one of the older Sigmas that aren't compatible with the newer Canon digitals.

does it work fine at 2.8 but give you a error 99 at any other aperture/ if so, it's an older 15mm fisheye that needs to be re-chipped to work with the latest cameras.

How much does the re-chipping cost, and where can I find out where to send it?

I have a 28-200 F3.5 sigma that gave me this code on my 350D over the weekend..
