I decided to step up to a Rebel XTi but to do so, I'll need to sell my G6 and the Canon wide angle converter and teleconverter. I posted them in the Sell forum but I haven't had anyone contact me at all. What should a G6 sell for? I thought I had a pretty reasonable price, especially when I lowered it. Am I overly optimistic on what I can get for this equipment?

Here's the listing: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=216562

Thanks in advance for the opinions.

Michael

One thing you can do is try watching a few auctions over at ebay. Once you login just search for G6 auctions, and then tag them to be tracked and see what folks are getting for them. Will tell you precisely what the market is at ebay.

As for your price, it seems more than reasonable to me. Especially for the whole kit. I'd be real interested myself except for the fact that I've decided to wait for the G7 reviews before choosing what to buy next.

Since I'm in the market for a new camera, I figured I'd track some G6s at ebay to get an idea of what they're selling for there. From Sept. 21 through today (10 days), I tracked twenty-two G6 auctions. I only looked at cameras that:

A. were advertised as being in very good or excellent condition
B. included all of the accessories that came in the original box
C. included a picture/pictures of the actual camera/extras being purchased (not simply a stock photo)

The twenty-two G6 auctions meeting those criteria amounted to just over 80% of the G6s for sale at ebay in the last 10 days. For anyone interested, here are the results (rounded to nearest dollar - total price in US dollars includes shipping cost indicated by seller):

CAMERAS THAT SOLD
1. G6 + 1x1GB CF + 2 extra batteries + 52mm adapter + Tele lens + Wide-angle lens + Small unnamed case/bag
Total Price -- $601

2. G6 + 52mm adapter + 3 filters + Tele Lens + 1 extra battery + 3.5yrs left on 5yr Mack warranty
Total Price -- $526

3. G6 + 1x1GB CF + 2 extra batteries + 52mm adpater + Tele lens + 3 filters + mini-tripod + small unnamed case/bag
Total Price -- $494

4. G6 + 1 extra battery + 52mm adapter + Tele lens + Wide-angle lens + 3 filters
Total Price -- $480

5. G6 + 1x512MB CF + 2x256MB CF + Canon Powershot case
Total Price -- $480

6. G6 + Promaster 5500 DX flasgh + Lumiquest softbox difuser
Total Price -- $461

7. G6 + 2 extra batteries + 52mm adpater + Tele lens + UV filter
Total Price -- $440

8. G6 + 1x512MB CF
Total Price -- $426

9. G6 + Canon Powershot Case
Total Price -- $420

10. G6 + Tamrac Velocity 4 bag
Total Price -- $419

11. G6
Total Price -- $418

12. G6 + Canon Powershot case
Total Price -- $418

13. G6
Total Price -- $410

14. G6 + 1x1GB CF + 1x512MB CF + 2 extra batteries + 52mm adapter + 3 filters + small unnamed case/bag + Card reader
Total Price -- $400

15. G6
Total Price -- $392

16. G6 + 1x512MB CF
Total Price -- $389

17. G6 + 2x256MB CF + Jenova bag
Total Price -- $381

CAMERAS THAT DIDN'T SELL
1. G6
Winning bid was bogus ($995) -- auction void

2. G6 + 1x512MB CF + 1 extra battery
Seller set start price at $399 -- item got zero bids

3. G6 + 1x512MB CF
Seller set start price at $300 -- item got zero bids

4. G6 + 2x512MB CF + 1x128MB CF + Card reader
Seller set start price at $250 -- item got zero bids

5. G6
Bidding reached $385 but seller "reserve price" was not met

One interesting thing was that none of the cameras that sold had a starting price nor a reserve price. Whereas all of the cameras that didn't sell (with the exception of the bogus bid) did have either a starting price or a reserve price. Even when the starting price was set well below the apparent ebay market price it still seemed to scare off bidders/buyers.
