thanks pete ive been doing a lot of hand held shot latley but they have not been to good do to shake or noisey. as with the plover if the len is resting on somthing /and try to get 50% frame fill then are good shots . plover wins.
many thanks

These are nice but can be better. Bigma is definitely more capable than these. Perhaps should consider a monopod or tripod? :)
I experienced the very same problem when i first got my Bigma. After using a tripod, the # of keepers skyrocketed.

My keeper was really low when i shot with Bigma handheld(unless i have Mitcon's arms - a fellow POTN'er who gets excellent results with Bigma handheld). The solution for me, is tripod. Nowadays I carry the tripod to anywhere i shoot, including to Yellowstone National Park last year :). Some people have luck with monopod.

As for noise, the recipe for noise disaster is "underexposure + high ISO + heavy cropping". Canon dSLRs handle high ISO pretty good. Most of the time, it is the underexposure and heavy cropping that amplify the noise. The solution would be, always try your best to exposure the photo appropriately(use Exposure Compensation), and figure out a way to approach your subject closer, first hand. Next, try not to crop too much. Cropping is NOT a good way to make the subject fill the frame.;)

Hope it helps.
