Ok well I thought about it and I thought I should just get the 100-300 f4 and save some money.
well tonight I was ata Ritz and they had the 120-300 there..WOW...that thing was AWSOME. Guy put it on a 20D for me and I got to play with it....I am DEF getting that lens next. I didnt find it to be heavy at all...It actually felt really nice.

Yeah, don't be scared off by the recent threads. I have one and I am one having issues right now too. But when this lens is on, it is definitely on.

I am chalking alot of my problems up to user error. I think that I just need to relearn how to use AI servo because I have about an even percentage of IF and OOF shots when shooting sports.

I actually tried to run mine through a focus test tonight but I am pretty sure I flubbed that up:confused: . See here - http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=213860 for details.

Good luck,
Travis

One should not assume that this lens is bad in general simply because there have been a handful of threads on that topic here of late. Remember, the internet is a giant amplifier for negativity, and for every thread here complaining about this lens there are probablly many others who are thrilled with this lens. ;)

Here are some of the shots that I took last week using this lens for the first time for football. And I am having issues ( if that tells you anything).

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=218264

This is why I firmly believe my issues are with myself and not the lens (although #1 is a little soft). And why I say when it's on, it's definitely on!

well the one looked pretty good. You might have to get use to it...There where issues of people getting bad copies of the Tamron lens as well but that didnt stray me...I am willing to take a chance and if it takes a week at sigma to get it in perfect...I am willing to do that for such an awsome lens

No kidding! When I purchased my 20D a few months back, it was the first lens I purchased. I was totally shocked at how poor the optics were. So soft I could probably have achieved better results with a $7 disposable camera. When I took it back the sales guy told me the return rate was very high. I haven't purchased a sigma lens since.

Better hope you never have a problem with a Canon product with that attitude. If you do, you might have no chance but to shoot Nikon. ;)
