To get reviews on most (possibly all) of the lenses cited in this thread, using a consistant test methodology, go to:

Enjoy! Lon

i'de love to see a 100% crop from a 14L just out of curiosity , to see if its as bad as alot of people make it out to be.

just for giggles the average new price for that lens in the UK works out as rougly $2650!

Oh man, that's steep. How much would then the 85L II be ?

I owned a 24L first because I wanted "prime sharpness" instead of the 24-70L (this was about a year ago), but I found it to be about the same for sharpness most of the time as the 24-70. I didn't like the colors much either. I like richer, warmer colors, and they seemed rather cool from the 24. So, I went to the 35L, and was very pleased. Sharp at 1.4 (the 24 was too, though) and nice rich colors and contrast. It did the trick. However, if you need wider, you need wider. 35mm won't always cut it.

Same sharpness as the 24-70, huh ? Perhaps that was all due to operator error based on limited experience. Have you got your first DSLR as a 20th birthday present ?
Incidentally, those 'rich, warm colours" is a major 24L's forte.

lol well the UK price is about £1600 ish, and the 14L £1400 ish, i wanted to upgrade the 85L but in all honestly i think thats an outrageous sum of money, besides my mark 1 is only about a year old, functions fine, so not for me. I must admit though as soon as i get more money and bravery i am tempted by the 14L, but im not brave enough to invest that much in a lens which has had alot of dubious reviews

Same here, Baybud.:) The 85L MkI is more than good enough for me (especially considering how good a deal I got when I bought it) and the 14L will continue to tempt on occasion....however, I can deal with that.;)

Sure did. XT, along with a 50 1.4, 28-135 IS, 100-400L IS, kit lens, computrekker plus AW, Bogen 3001bpro with 3265 head, two 4gig cards, and a 580. Not a bad birthday present, huh?

the 85L is a nice chunk, i wouldn't be without my canon ball lol. On the wide angle though, although tempted by the 14L im not really that keen on the perpective, 35 on FF is about my limit for that. Talking about all things 35, i must say the only let down with the 35L is the lower hald of the lens, the build quality is not that brilliant in my opinion, not like the 85L is, i swear that thing will outlive me.

Quite the list you've got there already, for sure. Some only dream of such a set of gear.

If you look at my current gear and the cost of my former gear, you'll see I've "moved up" quite a bit, but surprisingly enough, without spending a dime.

Sorry for a little linguini digression here:
Many Italian families effectively constitute a prison of love.
A major expresion of familial endearment is "va fa un c**o."
"Cretinello" is yet another pet name used on occasion to describe that particularly special child of ours.;)
