Another from the morning's shoot with Mike and Dimitri.
A small fall, 24-105 F4L, 5sec @ f16, tripod, timer, mirrror lock up.

Please check the larger image as I had difficulties in compression on the smaller, thanks.

Great pic as always Les, with excellent colour and lighting. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more of the falls themselves. I keep wanting to "peer around the corner" lol

But that want will keep you looking....and looking :)

Wonderul composition Les, not sure about the blueness of the water but it does contrast well with the red rocks so not a critisism as such...the larger version certainly shows the scene better :)

My only crit would be the slightly blown highlight, but I have had a few of those recently with the new camera :)

Yes, with regard to the blown highlight, it was a tough call to make, I could see through my viewfinder that this small area was a bit of a hot spot, but I could also see the area just to the right of the fall was quite dark, so it ended up a compromise between exposing for the absolute highlight resulting in a loss of detail in the shadow area, or exposing for the shadow area and blowing the whites.
As always in photography there are trade off's we are often forced to make, but it never becomes boring, does it :)

Lovely colours - you've really captured the rocks exquisitely and I think that was indeed the right compromise to make.

Compositionally (and bear in mind this is not my strong point at all) it didn't work for me at all for about 5 seconds, then I found my eye going to the red rocks at the bottom left , being led up the falling water and then following the diagonal striations doen to the red rocks at the bottom right. I now love it! :)

Agreed, trade offs are terrible things but if things were always perfect things would definately get boring :)

My eyes were immediately drawn to the lower left rock with lovely colours and texture, up the left upper rock to the leaves then back down the water to the bottom of the shot again.

The blown highlight didn't bother me at all, but the image quality of the right hand rock did slightly, but not as much on the full size version.

A difficult trade off between the water and pulling quality detail out of the right side.

The quality of your camera and lens shine through here too...my version would have been a binner.
