Pentax has a small preview of their new DA* lenses coming out this fall.

Last I recall they have teamed with Tokina for some lenses, notibly the 12-24mm f/4 and 10-17mm fisheye zoom. Could this be an early look at the 2 new f/2.8 tokina's?

Pentax use other lens makers as well so it's difficult to say if these are Tokinas or not ?

Wow, supersonic focus and maybe weather sealing?! They will make a killing with those features!! ;)
Ok,just joking :D ,it's good to see them offer more truly modern lenses. To be honest i've allways had a soft spot for pentax and like seeing them do well.

Yea, the 16-50 is a Pentax design that Toke will use for their own. Same for the fisheye zoom. I guess Toke to relase their version isn't too far.

I e-mailed Tokina a few weeks ago and the customer service rep said that the fisheye zoom will be available in the US sometime in October.
I'll be first in line when it becomes available at B&H

If the Tokina's 16-50mm offered the same features as the Pentax model, that would be a very nice alternative to the Canon 17-55mm IMO.

Wouldn't that be one of the first 3rd party wide-normal type zooms with a USM-esk AF system too?

I doubt weather sealing would carry over to the 3rd party model as the various mounts would make this a challenge IMO.

The 1650 will have the same AF/MF as the 1224 -- one-touch (pull focus ring down/push back up) mechanism. I like it a lot, but it isn't the same as USM/HSM with FTM. As for weather-sealing, it's a no-go too.
