yesterday we went to a place called "Serendip Sanctuary" I was simply superb, millions of years ogo it was where Lava flowed, then a river and now a lake where water birds gather. So the Department of parks and wildlife have set up hides to view wild birds, waterfowl and and grazing birds and animals. They have also included so birds in a captive situation to educate people on birds and animals they rearely would see if ever, once again for reasons of conservation and education.
The suprising thing about this place it it 100% free. My wife and I spent 4-5 hours there exploring and viewing birds from common birds I see locally to birds I have seen on the odd occasion and birds I have only read about or seen on books. This place was superb and has several species breeding at the moment in which we will return in 2-3 weeks to photograph babies and take the extended walks.
Anyway here are 3 shots of a strange and very endangered bird called the Stone Curlew or Bush Thick-knee (on account of the knobby knees) this little bird stands about 12 inches of the ground. They are captive and breeding, the female is on 3-4 eggs. The female was 6 inches of the path and took us 20 minutes to spot lol
I will cotinue over the next few days to post shots frem yesterday. I shot nearly 450 RAW files, it was necessary as this place was very very special and have discoverred these type of places are all over Australia.
These are all almost as shot, small crop on shot 2 and USM on shot 3 after resizing.
Comments always welcome for good and bad......
Regards Darren
