agree with JRA. Lovely shot, but in the first the eye is drawn to the bright background on the left.

The second shot is really nice but my eye keeps going towards the yellow stuff in the background of the first shot. She also looks too crowdwd to the right in the first shot

Are these shots of the same girl? Hard to tell - they look very different. You either have a WB/levels problem or you lightened the shadows way too much in #2. Hair and lip color are completely different in the 2 images.

Excellent composition on the 1st shot. It looks like the eye is a little out of focus. If possible, you probably want to focus on the closer eye. It looks to be back focused, but perhaps there was some movement/camera shake. What shutter speed did you take it at? Anyway, I really like the lighting and all. You might could tweak the curves a bit in PS.

I'm not feeling the lighting on the 2nd shot, however. It looks like maybe you painted on lipstick later in post processing, am I wrong?

I did paint the lipstick on in the second one, also tried some highlight adjustments to see what they would do. As for playing with curves I haven't tried that yet. Very new to using photoshop. First one shutter speed was1/40 at F5.6 ISO 100.

Here is the second one with no extra PP. Better or worse?

Yeah, it looks like you might have overused the shadow/highlight feature, which tends to throw skin tones out of whack. It definitely looks better without the extra PP. The 1/40 shutter speed on the first shot would probably be what is causing the lack of sharpness. Bump up the ISO to 200 or 400 so you can get some faster shutter speeds.

She's a beautiful girl and the composition is good. As another poster said, the WB is slightly off. With the light from that angle I would use a white or soft gold reflector to bring some light to her face. Then you would not have to PP the highlights. I have some examples I can post when I get home from work if want to see the results from reflectors. They are cheap (if you don't already have one) and fun to work with.

Here's just a minor curves adjustment.

I do now have a 5 in 1 reflector. We had some on that shoot but didn't use it for that shot.

a little more light would have been nice, but you have so much to work with as it is! The first photo especially has so much potential to tell a story.

below is a link to an edit I did to it, to give you some ideas! Congrats on great work, your photography is really great!
