Yes, one is a prime and has macro capabilities. The other a telephoto.

I haven't seen much written about the 50-150 but I see quite a few people happy with their 150mm.

At the 150mm end I would certainly be interested in macro photography.

But of course having a mid range telephoto is a plus too.

Any ideas or comments?

Well, the 150 mm is a prime, telephoto & macro, all in one. You can get 1:1 macro at 38 cm distance, so you have a nice margin between your target and the lens; and is HSM. Very good results, and good IQ. It has a switch with 3 positions for the focus: 0.38 -0.56 - Infinitum. And it´s also a fast lens f/2.8. very well rated for almost every body. I have it and I am very pleasent with it.

About the 50-150 mm, I can not speak, still is a new lens but here it´s a link in this forum about it:

Anyway, the prime is a DG lens and the zoom is a DC lens, it means that the prime can work in a FF body and the DC doesn´t properly. I don´t know which body do you have.

Cheers
Juan

I have the 150 Macro and its great for macro and using it as a telephoto lens as well. It has a slow focus when you have the limiter on FULL...but if you switch the limiter from .54-infiniti the focus speeds up alot more
