behold the Sigmonster

there's a review of the sigmonster at Luminous-Landscapes. It may not be the 1200 of the canon, but I am sure it's big enough to shoot down a plane or two

I allways think it funny that canon users inevitably go on about the 1200L lens.Most don't seem to know that nikon makes a 1200-1700 professional zoom

Thanks for that link! The only images i'd seen of this members were of one slightly out of focus bird printed very oversaturated then plastered over one wall.It was abit dissapointing.
Now that i've seen the rest of his images -what a difference! Fantsastic

So true...the zoom weighs some 16-17 kg and the price is (well, did not even bother looking for it).....Nikon probably throw a freebe Sigmonster into the deal just to be used as a sight glass.

my goodness. does somebody make a camera bag for that to fit into??????

that's a nice shoots he managed to create with such a nice peice of glass. even with this beast the 350D looks very small. It also proves that you don't need the best camera in the world at all. You just need the best glass.

Romy is cited in the LL article - and yes, his work is excellent. I'm envious of his moon shots and look to them for inspiration for my own.

PS - nice review by Reichmann. The Sigmonster is truly one to put on the list of unobtainable, but desireable lenses. I believe that CDS has one.

What amazes me far more about Romy's work is the images he captures using the 500mm IS (often with an extender/converter), hand held!!!

Romy's a champ - he's willing to take the time to use the equipment to it's fullest capability. He shoots with the 350D and the 1D II. I think he's got a 20D as well. He's certainly got plenty of good long glass. He knows what he needs to do the job and has the ability to acquire it.

Yes, he's got a great location for bird photography (and probably for moon shots as well), but he puts his skill to work making the best of that situation.

Great photographer, IMHO.
