It's getting dark here pretty early. I took these both in Av Mode ISO 400 and I got away with 1/80 sec on one and 1/100 sec on the other and they still are pretty sharp:eek: .

No small feat, as these guys don't stay still for too long. BTW this was a female House Finch.

This is the second or third time I've heard this today. Assuming it sits still that long, wouldn't a slower shutter speed make a sharper picture?

My point was that they rarely sit perfectly still (which would be necessary at those shutter speeds) at all. So, I was pleasantly surprised that I got two decent images.

So, yes if your subject is perfectly still (not the Finch's strong suit) you could consistently get nice sharp images with a slow shutter speed.
