And great balancing act~ You said you used flash for the shots....did you end up with any red-eye on the owl? The light in your images look pretty good for in the woods. Yes, I used the in-camera flash for my shots and did get red eye whenever the owl was looking straight at me, so I planned my shutter release carefully as to not bounce the flash back to his eye...waited for slight head truns...
