Questionaire: What is Your Experience with the 24-70L?

It was time to get this in the open, I think.

1. Do you own a 24-70L?

2. How long have you owned it? 1 mo., about 6 mos., about 1 year, or longer?

3. Were you completely satisfied with it the day you got it? If not, what was the problem?

4. If you were not satisfied, what did you do? Return it? Send it for adjustment or repair? Work with it?

5. If you did have it adjusted, how does it work now?

6. If you had issues with it at first, do you think it was "user problems" more than the lens itself?

I hope this will clear up some of the threads that have been around lately about this lens.

3. I had doubts, requested a 2nd copy to compare. Sent back 2nd copy.

5. Sent it in once with ALL my gear but it turned out to be an XT problem, none of my lenses.

I think it was just mistitled. It's more like a questionnaire.

I forgot I could do that. I'll have to work on it. The problem was there were so many questions. I thought it would be easier this way.

You may be right. I will ask a moderator to fix it for me. The questionnaire is more accurate.

3. Were you completely satisfied with it the day you got it? If not, what was the problem?Absolutely. To my delight, I've not had any problems with any of my copies. Two were new. Four were second hand.

And I think I need to answer my own Post.

1. Yes.
2. 8 months.
3. Thought the lens was too soft and focus hard.
4. Because of the advice here and posting some shots, sent it to NJ Service Center.
5. They replaced the focus ring, cleaned it and recalibrated it. And yes, I am totally satisfied.
6. I never thought I would admit this, but I think it was me more so than the lens. I now hold my camera a whole different way than before and it has made a huge difference.

I've never had a problem with the lens, despite the fact that I broke the hood in a car accident. The lens survived, as did I. Sent it in for a check-up after the accident since insurance covered it. Nothing was amiss and the lens was returned cleaned and checked.

3. No, it was in multiple pieces (i knew this before i bought it btw)
4. i sent it for repair
5. It's fantastic, i'll never sell it, it should be even better when i get a full frame digital too
6. I haven't had any problems. To be honest the "problems" with this lens are really the same as any other zoom, hold it steady and stop it down a smidge for the best quality. Only photographic common sense really, if you can get good pics with a longer zoom lens (without IS) you can get good pics with this one too.
