i think it is a rough-legged hawk. Driving to Claresholm this morning - there were lots of hawks.

Wow you must have a big lens! I might have cropped out some of the area above the bird but love the pose.

Great idea about the cropping, thanks - it looks better now. About the lens - i used my 100-400 but he was very close and posing nicely.
