It would do a little bit of sharping to this time and that would probably make it pop more, otherwise nice job. This hair blends in with the bg a little but its not bad.

Like the second better. I agree with the BG comment from Lindsi. Different color would pop the subject.

A little unsharp mask and curves adjustment might help. I would also frame a little bit further down the torso, perhaps, including the whole collar. Good composition on the 2nd pic.

second is better, but try to get the bottom of the frame to be filled with him, no space to the side of his shoulder or body

The way the hair meets the background looks kind of strange, but other than that I like them!
