My first Pileated Woodpecker

I literally just captured this image out of my Dorm room window (9/23/06 @ 6:10PM - Posted at 6:20).
Not my best work, but then again it was a split second capture before it flew away. Perhaps the next shot will be better.

Always nice to see these birds...so full of character.

Rare and elusive, speedy bird...any shots of it are exciting...

The Depth Of Field is real fine, for getting him up there in the tree...

The composition is very natural and strong...the lighting through the tree's branchlets if diffused enough to add quality to the rarity of the sighting...

Sleep? In college Dorms? I gave up sleep to come to college.

I only see one or two of these a year where I live. They tend to be shy.

Dorm window eh? What a view. I'm sure you'll get another opportunity as this species of woodpecker is not shy and one can get surprisingly close to them.
