What do you think?

I was going to put this in my other thread about rock portraits, but it is really about the effect, so I made a new one. CC is much appreciated, cause this is my first time trying this

Thank you mamabravo! I used the draganizer action which can be found here (external link) After you run the action you just burn and dodge the photo to bring out the highlights and hide the things you don't want!

How do you install and use the action once downloaded. Thanks in advance.

I only know how on Windows, but once you download it just unzip the action to the actions folder which is usually found here C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Photoshop Actions. After that is done open photoshop and then go to the actions tab and click the little play button and choose the effect! The effect has different modes, so if you image isn't very big use "Dragonizer(for smaller images) and click play. The first step is to apply unsharp mask which will vary based on the contrast of the image. The image I used for this was very contrasty so I didn't apply very much. Then after you click play again it will ask you to highlight the areas you want to stand out with a black brush set at low opacity. For this image all I did was brush over the eyes pretty heaviliy and then a little bit on the face outside of the shadow as well as the bars on the guitar neck and a little bit on the guitar itself. Click play again and this time paint over the eyes if your images has eyes with a white brush. Click play again and from here I just went with all the defaults although I probably should have adjusted some of the levels cause I did end up using the burn and dodge tool pretty extensively! Make sure you merge the layers before you burn and dodge! Have fun

Very nice application.

I do not know if this was your intent, but it no longer looks like a photograph. As far as I can tell, it looks every bit like a Velvet Painting. A very interesting application of the Dargan action.

I LIKE IT! If you would, please share a before and after HERE.

I like this effect. It is a little dark for acoustic guitar, maybe. Now if it were an electric guitar with a heavy-banging kinda guy there, it might fit the dark image better. Try sitting on a barrel or stack o' hay next to a corn field or something with the acoustic. Oh, and wear some overalls. :D

Nice effect incendy. You did an outstanding job. For some reason this photo reminded me of the photos that were in the Gunslinger series by Steven King.

I really like this effect! Do you know if I can use that download in elements?
