I came to enjoy finding birds to photo in my old age only a couple of years ago.
Recently I have been re-editing some of my captures. The main lesson is its not the camera, not the lens but the guy behind the camera. Then of course is ones ability to post edit your captures to get the best results.

But most important is been in the right place at the right time. Please C&C welome, but if we enjoy want we get to hell with CC.

Please allow me one more. Of course my peers here always do so much more incredable captures, but we all try are best.

Some incredibly good shots you have here John, the kingfisher has glorious colours, beautiful light and detail showing lovely markings. Apart from the noise that the image shows it's quite a perfect shot.
The in-flight of the Curlew is a fantastic shot, sharp and clear.
I like the Heron shots too.
I have no idea of the ID of the birds in the first shot, but you have nailed good focus on the birds in-flight and no idea of the ID of the bird in the 5th shot that has glorious colours. Nice ones, well done.

Some stunning shots here John!

Some critique on the Post process,..
The flight shots it's usually best to leave some more room in fornt of the bird on your crop, I know it's cliche to say so , but it does help to give a better feeling of motion if the bird has room to fly into the image.

Most of your finished images are suffering from a combination of a poor monitor calibration, and low contrast/saturatiopn. Some of the color wash out may be natural, if they were taken during strong noonish sunlight. etc.. but the color casts I am seeing I assume are due to monitor calibration. I also think that some of these could do with some more sharpening on the subject, and some noise reduction on the back grounds in particular.
