So what is this story about shutter life?

I have had my XT for about 2 years and it has traveled with me around the globe, now with over 300,000 shutter click (That I say from top of my mind looking at file number, and though am sure that there is a certain way to confirm it from body, do not know how).

Now my question is how I should interpret this number. According to what I hear, Canon XT is for 50,000 shutter life. Rebel did not blow up at 50,000 on me. Why is that my body works so perfectly and with no problem???

Because it was well made. I believe the shutter life is a number given by the design team as a reasonable amount of use that the shutter should endure before breaking. some last longer, some dont. Why are some cars lemons? Why does the 10 year old HDD I have work great and one that is 2 years old just crashed and burned?

300,000? You mean that folder's 300 and file's 0000? If that's the case you've got more like 20,000 since folder count starts at 100 and the first 2 digits of the file number are the last 2 of the folder number.

No 300,000 as in 300K or 3 x 10 raise to power of 5.

Where are you getting this 300,000 from, then? 300,000 files you've taken? It's just that that would be about 150K shots a year or 400+ per day, which doesn't leave a lot of time for anything else. What is your folder/file number?
