Went to my usual area today and there was a front coming threw.
Got windy and dismal so this is the only shot I managed.

Very nice Nuthatch...the background lighting is very conducive to this photo, as is the dry wood above the bird.

Most fascinating of birds as they clean the tree trunks of insects...What area of Upstate NY is this?

They are a tough capture.

i just wonder if this would help?...
A bit of more bird to tree ratio... I would apply this proportion...3/4 bird, 1/4 wood/sky...Than again, you might have tried it and found this to be better for the overall bird image.

It looks like a fallen dead tree the nuthatch is on. This makes an interesting shot with the texture of the tree and you can see he has a keen eye looking for the grubs, nice shot, well done.
