Well one of my friends mom has about 5 lenses and she had this old 75-300mm ultrasonic, she said the autofocus went out of it. So she went out and bought a brand new 75-300mm just like it, and let the old one sit there. She said if i could get it to work i could have it. Well i popped it on and everything worked fine...so its mine now. Anyway is this an ok zoom lense?

If the lens focuses and you can take a picture with it...you are ahead of where you were before you got it. Enjoy...free doesn't happen often in this game.

Its a good lens for its cost.
However the cost you paid for it puts it into a great lens category :D
Enjoy it..

haha yeah your right, free doesnt happen often. But does anyone else have any experience with this lense? or is it pretty much a begginer zoom lense? (which is fine by me)

If you took the shot of the lens and felt that was ok, then you will have no problem with the 75-300:)

You don't say if this is the IS or non IS version and having had both, I feel the latter one is better due to the IS, however, optically, they are both similar.

These are probably some of the most maligned lenses ever and some folks refer to them as outright cr*p and others are very happy with them. If you are the average amateur, you'll most likely get good use from it, although it is especially weak at the full 300 focal length. Up to around 200, the results are better in quality.

Unless you are willing to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars, this is an excellent lens, especially when you consider the price you paid!

Good luck

Instead of asking us if it's good, why don't you shoot with it and decide for yourself?
