I am just guessing but probably a means to cool down and Hummers are propbably more prone to overheating considering their metabolism. Thanks Gary! The panting was very strange, I've seen other birds do it but never the hummers. We had a pretty hot and relatively humid summer this year and yesterday was nothing compared to the heat we had. But he was zooming around as if a swarm of hornets was chasing him, it was incredible!
