Great shots, Wayne! Impressive stalking technique :) Too bad you didn't get closer with the first shot, the perch and the bg are very nice there. Great detail in the second pic :)

They are very good shots wayne, the second shot looks excellent for detail, well done.

Nice shots Wayne. #1 puts the bird into it's environment well. How did you stalk it - are they quite approachable?

I've never really tried much for birds being quite unsuccessful in the past - particulary with the Fuji S5000 I had previously (too slow).

These Thornbills are fast moving small birds and it is difficult to get in close, I was surprised to be able to get this close - though I was very patient. I normally keep my arms and feet together when stalking and take small steps toward the target. I raise the camera up to my eye and start takign shots before I am in range.

I have a few good shots of a butcher bird I will post soon eating its catch.

As I watched these Thornbills I noticed that one would occasionally fly past with a feather in it's mouth so I followed it on. The nest was in a tree hollow some distance up and in a darkened area that did not make for good photo's unfotunately.
