I'd wait to see if it's 1,200.00 worth better that the 50 1.4. Unless your loaded, and don't know what to do with your $$$, I don't see any reason to even consider this lens, unless you drop lenses consistantly and need the extra build quality, or desperately need the extra ".2"... I'll stick with my 50 1.4 (it's a killer lens with a great price tag!)

I cant wait. The waiting is KILLING me! I am so pumped for this new addition, I had to sell off my 50 1.4 for 200 bucks to a friend! Now I have a nice space being redecorated in my bag. Hell I feel like an expecting father all over again.

If this lens has ANY characteristics of the 85L, It will be worth every penny IMHO

I knew you'd be onboard, Dante... :)

I can't wait to see the optical tests and shots taken with this puppy. I've been holding onto my FD 50mm f/1.2L for years waiting for this one. Though to be honest, I'm pretty happy with the 35mm f/1.4L I just picked up. I don't use the 50mm focal length much on 1.6x and 1.3x crop bodies.

On a 5D or 1Ds, this would be way sweet. I really hope the lens performs to expectation.

DN, you hit the nail on the head. If I had a crop camera I would most likely not be clamoring for this lens so much. (ok, who am I fooling, but you get the point)

I am not going to put too much stake in the "tests". I will decide with one strapped to my camera. For me 50mm is on so much its really awful. In my work with kids I think the 50 really shines. Been wanting a 50L forever, no condyk not due to status :), but for the optical quality and DOF control it affords. My prayers have been answered.
