Red filter use on D-SLR

Anyone ever pop a red filter on a D-SLR? I'm thinking you would either need to use a custom white balance or one of the presets. Auto white balance would be all screwed up after the filter is in place.

Why would I want to use a red filter you ask? To convert the shot to b/w in post. The filter should darken the sky.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

do this adjustment in PS. no need to filter with DSLR.

FM has a great plug in called BW workflow Pro that is really good for this type of conversion. Apertures, BW conversion tools are pretty sweet too.

I use BW Conversion Pro a lot and love it! Currently, I shoot landscapes with a circular polarizer. When I really crank the Red Channel in BW Workflow it introduces a ton of noise to my image. I want the skies nearly black so I think I'm going try a red filter in addition to the Circ. Pol. In addition, I might underexpose 1 stop.
