Just got my 70-300mm IS USM lens and it's wow.
I can get a stable shoot at 300mm with 1/10s.
The image is sharp and good contrast.
f5.6 wide open, 1/10s, ISO 800:

Need higher speed in portrait as my hand is not stable enough without vertical grip.
f5.6 wide open, 1/20, ISO 1600:

The new batch seems get rid of Vertical Orientation Images in TELE Side issue.
My lens serial no. is starting with 203xxxxx

Highly recommended!

LOL, seriously. I am curious if I'm doing okay with my 1/4 sec handheld kit lens.

It's normally stable at wider angle.
I usually had a nice & stable shots at 1/15s with my 10-22mm.
but I seldom had a stable hand-held shot at 300mm with slower than 1/100s, non-IS. 1/10s is really impressive for me.

I just got my 70-300 IS last week, I think the first thing I did was update my sig!! hint hint... =_).. Seriously though, I love the lens, sadly though the weather as been bad, or I've have other things on the go and I've been unable to get out with it.. Funny, I too tested how long of a shutter I could attend at 300mm... Must be the IS!!! I'm a fan!
