These are nice, I like # 1 alot, I think the crop in 3 is a little tight maybe. I noticed the background in # 1 was pretty visible so I gave it a shot. Hope you don't mind. Very cute baby!

#1 is wonderful! I would use a little more depth of field for the other two, half of his face is out of focus.

Number one is really cute. I would love to know how you set up this shot. What sort of homemade things did you use? I am interested in setting up something like this myself.

I used a 9 foot by 15 foot muslin material backdrop (bought at local fabric store for about $20), a table, and two 'light boxes' made out of foamcore (posterboard with foam center), 300w clamp lights, and bedsheets. There are directions at: http://www.morguefile.com …ve/classroom.php?lesson=7 (external link) (although I cut the size in half and they were still BIG!)

Yeah, much better! What did you do???

In photoshop:

I used the lasso tool to crop somewhat close around the baby and selected inverse to get the background.

Then I used the median filter (filter/noise/median) to blur the background. Somtimes it's a better way to blur if you don't want the edges to bleed.

Then I added a spotlight filter ( fliter/render/lighting effects/spotlight); I made it pretty wide and adjusted the intensity accordingly.

For the shadow I used the selection of the child and filled it with gray on a new layer, fliped it, scaled it, warped it a little, changed the opacity to about 16%, and put a gaussion blur on it.

That's about it really, I did a little sharpening and contrast too, but that was fine to begin with.

PS I'm glad you liked! :D
