NO HSM!!!!

no OS!

seriously, if sigma adds the HSM and OS onto this baby, it'll set up real stiff competition with the ef-s 17-55mm. imagine that!

i dont get why sigma doesnt put HSM in more of their lens..ESPECALLY ALL the EX series ones. I mean those are their Pro grade lens...i think they should ALL have HSM

wow.... another pointless upgrade by sigma. the 18-50 is a nice lens. sure could stand HSM and or OS though.

Not so much "how" but "why".

Answer: Cuz the marketing department says so.

because they wanted to have some reason to rebadge the same lens for publicity's sake. my guess is they saw all the other 16/17/18-50/55 2.8 lenses coming out, and felt theirs wasnt getting enough attention. so the added a macro badge to almost the exact same lens and are readvertising it to keep in competition.

Just like they did with their 70-200.

Come on, Tom. It's just like the Tamron 2875 and Sigma 2470 lenses are "Macro" with their 1:4 reproduction

There should be some rules/guidelines for a macro to be atleast 1:2 or more magnification.

As for the lens, since it's min. focus dist. is smaller, the optics must have been changed/new.

I agree with others that they should include HSM with and pro grade lens denoted by "EX".

The old 18-50 had soft corners and CA issues, maybe they also addressed that issue as well.
