Since you seem to be interested in ending up with something consistent with the era being portrayed by the costumed people, I think you have to go with the Sepia.

In any case, I am partial to monochrome images, because I think they fit better into the category of fine art.

Sepia all the way....that's what the photo says to me at least. If you're going for a style of dress from the era where sepia would've been the mode of printing, i think that's how you should print it.

I agree, the sepia photo works better, but it is too sharp and perfect. How using a blur brush and darken around the background to soften up the photo while keeping the characters sharp. I think it would lend a bit more of the old sepia feel.

I did apply some heavy vignetting to the photo... I'll try to muck it up with a blur.

Thanks.

The sepia really does add to this shot. Great job on the PP as well and I dont see any of the 'obvious' cloning signs. I'm wondering how the shot would look with a mildly tighter crop?

sepia, of course!
I like your shot. The center of the frame is busy though, why don't you try to clone out the guy between the two couples? He's a nice figure, but I would give it a try.

I was thinking about that. I just cloned a "modern day" person just beside him. I also may clone the couple sitting by the bench and just leave the couple walking in the picture.

I've got to agree with the others; the sepia looks right. Also I agree that you have to "age" the photo a bit more. I was also thinking of a very small amount of blur, but also some noise as well to simulate the old grainy film of days gone by.

FiveFish, Is there a chance this was taken inside Coloniel Williamsburg? Looks familiar.

I ike the sepia also.

No, this is in Kentucky, at the Shaker village. There was a civil war re-enactment the day before, and some people decided to stay in costume the next day... which is when I got this pic.

Here's the muck-up, blurred, antique version of the same photo above.

I like this. The sepia is more period but I find it a bit too yellow. I ran your original thru a Duotone Dream action and really liked that result. It does seem to want some sort of monochrome (duotone?) conversion. It's a good photo.

I am surprised at the suggestions to soften the image...did early photographers not take sharp pictures?
