Can i use a macro lens for other photos?

hi there... this may be a stupid question but if i go for it and buy a Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro, can i use it for landscape photography... and also shooting pictures of buildings... it's just i want to shoot macro photography but comming up for winter and you get amazing shots... so can i use it? thanks

Oh yes you can. And, get great results. Only "downside" maybe that macro lenses are a little slow to AF at those longer distances.

Generally People use wider lenses for lanscapes, but yes you could use the 90mm.

Absolutely no reason why you can't use a macro for any other type of photography.
I've used my Sigma 150 f2.8 for landscape and portrait with good results.
( needs a bit of distance for head and shoulders ).

2nd that, I use my 60mm all the time, as I mostly shot none moving things I dont find the AF a problem, but tracking anthing fast would be tricky.

i use my 100mm for some portraits of my animals, and they come out FAR more crisp and sharp then my 17-85.

yes for sure you can use it for astro photography if you want but might not be to great

A macro lens also makes a nice portrait lens. Depending on which lens, maybe not the fastest to focus, but the fast aperture lends to some nice portrait shots with good bokeh.

Thats right, I often hear about how people use their Macro lenses for portrait work, they focus up to infinity no problem.

I use the canon efs 60mm 2.8 macro as my walkaround lens. It fits my style perfectly. The photos it produces are excellent. Once in a blue moon, I'll even take a macro shot.

I use mine for portrait and event shooting when the light gets low. It's moderately fast AF but I prefer to MF and sometimes use AF just to get me close first. God bless full-time manual.

I have Canon's 100mm macro among my 4 lenses (5 if you count my 1.4x TC). It fits right between my 24-70L and 135L and while I use it on occation as a 100mm lens it's primary use is as a macro. BTW, I also have a 15mm f/2.8 for use with my 20D.

As if you need any more people telling you -yes,the macro lenses make awsome normal lenses,mostly because they are so incredibly sharp!
