Lately, whenever someone posts a reference to another thread in the forums, when I click on that link and a new window pops up, the referenced thread shows that I am not logged in at the top.

If I right-click on a thread topic in the main forum listings and launch in a new window, I am still logged in there.

Running Win XP SP2, Firefox (though IE exhibits the same behavior). Firefox also does the same thing with referenced threads if I right-click and launch in a new tab.

I've been around forums for many years and haven't see this odd behavior before. Checked my Control Panel and didn't see anything to address this issue. And, yes, I check the little box that says leave me logged in.

Strange? Sorry if this has been covered somewhere. Couldn't think of any unique keywords to search on to find an answer.

Are you logged into https://photography-on-the.net/forum/ or http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/ ? While this may not seem like a big difference, you should be using the former and not the latter... and I'll bet that this is what's causing that problem (as both URLs store separate login info via cookies on your computer).

That was it. Thanks, SimonG.

Also, as a test, I logged into a referenced post, clicked the remember me checkbox and now everything works as normal.

Odd.

Well, you're probablly logged into both URLs now (i.e. your browser is storing two different sets of cookies).

Exactly. Matter of fact, when I went back to a thread with a lot of references in it, I noticed that everyone was posting references without the [URL][URL]www. part in the URL. I have my main bookmark to the forum with the [URL][URL]www. part in it, so that explains it all.

Thanks again.

(Guess I'm old school for typing in [URL][URL]www. before everything.)

can we not just forward the www to the domain rather than use it as a seperate domain - eg a webforward type thing?
