I have thinking about getting a medium zoom for a long time now. Perferct to shoot the kids on the go and their sporting events. I own the 300D, am I crazy to buy this lens? Would I be able to get the same results shooting this lens on this camera as maybe a 20D, 30D, 5D and so on.

Your thoughts would be greatly apreciated!

Scotty O

Not crazy at all. This lens will give great results with the 300D.

There are two things which are more important than the camera body. One is the lens in front of it. The other one is the photographer behind it.

Having said that, I'd recommend you to go for the lens and not for the body...

Most definately.... Get the lens.

You will be happy with it, and if you dont get the IS, or if you get the f/4, or if you just completley cheese out and just get the EF 70-300, you will always wish you would have gotten the best.

I have played with this lens so much, and it is definately the NEXT lens that i am going to get, as soon as funds allow, maybe in november.
You might want to be thinking about a monopod to go along with that purchase...;)

Im using a 350D, and wether you are using a 1D, or a 300D, it is a GREAT addition to your gear bag, and will 'help' improve anyones gallery of shots, IMHO.

Make sure to take pics of lots of ducks....:):):)

You'll certainly get great results. The 300d is a very capable camera and the lens is usually the weekest link in the overall image quality.

I for one am a big fan of great glass coupled with the cheapest camera that will do the jobs you need/want it to do. Glass holds its value well and cameras don't so it makes good financial sense too.

The 70-200 2.8 LIS is fantastic, as I'm sure you know, so go buy it and enjoy.

If you can comfortably afford it, by all means go for it! It's a marvelous lens. :)

Another vote for the lens....its fantastic, but you will also need a POTN neck strap to go with it!

The 70 - 200L f/2.8is was my first L and I doubt we will ever be parted.
I read much of the information on this forum and others when trying to decide on (is) or the non (is) version and was then lucky enough to have a good friend lend me his 70-200 f2.8is to use while he was away on holiday.

By the time he returned I had purchased my own and have never looked back.

If you are going to shoot action -- get the 2.8L -- save your money by not getting the IS version. The shutter speeds you will be using for sports will be fast enough to make the IS not needed.

There's a good reason why many folks, myself included, feel the 70-200 f/2.8L IS is probably one of Canon's finest lenses. It's worth getting. You may not always find a need for the IS, but it can really make a difference in the final image at times.
