Owners of EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM - Help me find a UV Filter!

So I am getting a EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens Woohoo! (on a Rebel XT)

Since this will be my most expensive investment thus far for my camera I can't even imagine scratching it, so I need your help in helping me pick out a UV Filter.

What is the best , most practical, least interfering and best for the price lens filter you have used to protect this lens?

Please let me know what you think, I can't scratch this lens!!!

Can't go wrong with either B+W MRC or Hoya SMC / Pro Digital UV Filter but you might want to get a slim filter

b+w or hoya. I like my hoya

I wouldnt suggest putting a UV filter on it. For years I was a believer in using UV filters on all lens' to "protect" but they do more harm to images then good. The day I took it off my images took a whirlwind in quality. Its like putting a camera up to a window and shooting thru a window. There is a very slight flare. BTW if you didnt buy the lens yet, am selling mines cause i upgraded to a 5D from a 20D and it's sitting in my bag, havent used it in some time...
But back to the filter, search the web for UV filter flare, like on google or something and you will see it really isnt worth putting a filter on, better off getting the hood to protect it.

(*sigh*) I hate wondering whether I should get a filter or not; hmmm maybe hold off for a bit and see if the hood suffices...I'll check prices, maybe that will be the deciding factor....

I have the B+W F-pro standard UV 010 filter on my 10-22... no vignetting at all and the quality is excellent!

This is something else ill need when my 10-22 comes! Good thread Charles! I thought if im spending over a grand on this lens i might as well pay the bit more and get a good filter to protect it

I have a Hoya Pro1 Super HMC UV filter but its never been used on a lens yet. The only reason I have it is if conditions warrant the use: extreme dusty or wet conditions.

I have the same setup. No vignetting at all. No need to pay a premium for the slim filter variety.

I've had that problem with cheap Hoya and Tiffen UV filters... the higher end Hoya S-HMC or the B+W filters have no such problem at all - at least from my experience anyway.

Sometimes certain angle will cause ghosting no matter what brand you use, but it's rare if you use higher quality filters and you can always take them off when the situation occurs.

I wouldn't care to put UV filters on lenses that are less than $300 but when it goes into the range of $600+, I'd much rather have a good filter in front to take the hit IF something were to happen... PLUS, L lenses aren't completely weather sealed unless you have an UV filter on anyway.

To each his own, and this debate will never end.

All B+W filters allow you to use lens cap except the slim filter which I believe does not have thread on the outer ring.
